Philippines wins Miss Eco International 2022

Kathleen Paton has been crowned Miss Eco International 2022 on March 18, 2022 at the Triumph Luxury Hotel in Cairo, Egypt. The representative of Philippines bested 40 other beauty queens to win this title and to succeed Miss Eco International 2021, Gizzelle Mandy Uys from South Africa. Kathleen also won the Best in Eco Video award during this final. Kathleen’s victory makes it the Philippines’ second win after Cynthia Thomalla was crowned the title in 2018.

During the final question-and-answer round, Paton was asked: “As a titleholder, you’re a public figure. Do you think it’s important to stay neutral on controversial social issues or to use your title to promote your own belief, and why?” She answered: “It is a very tough question in all honesty because we are at the forefront of opinions and negativity every single day, especially on social media. I do believe as a leader and as someone who is very influential in society, we sometimes have to use our voice in a very neutral state of mind because we have a very influential position. But in doing so, we also need to use our voice in order to motivate other people to stand up for what is right, and I think that takes a lot of good moral compass.

The 24-year-old Australian-Filipino beauty queen and model is a graduate of business management at the Victoria University in Australia. She is no stranger to international beauty pageants – the Boracay-born Philippine bet also won the Miss Teen International title in 2017 in Bangkok, Thailand, representing Aklan. She was Miss Manila in 2018.
