Tumateata Buisson is the new Miss Tahiti

Tumateata Buisson was crowned Miss Tahiti 2021 during a gala, held on June 25, 2021 in the gardens of the town hall of Papeete. She suceeded Matahari Bousquet, Miss Tahiti 2019, the year 2020 having no candidate because of the Covid-19 pandemic. She will therefore wear the colors of her island at the 2022 Miss France 2022 pageant, which will be held next December. She is The first state titleholder crowned for the 2022 election 

Born to a mother of Tahitian origin and a French and Chinese father, Tumateata Buisson, 24, is a pure fruit of crossbreeding. The young woman also proudly affirms her “crossbreeding”: “I have Asian origins, a Tahitian first name and a French name“, she listed with the channel Polynésie 1ère the day after her coronation. 

She is the last of four siblings. She grew up in the islands and continued her education there. In terms of studies, she obtained a professional license in the field of marketing and social networks. Very attached to her island and its culture, she became responsible for communication in the tourism sector, in order to promote and promote Tahiti and French Polynesia.

After losing one of his older brothers several years ago, his mother also died. Determined to pay homage to them, the young woman decides to embark on the adventure of Miss Tahiti. “Miss Tahiti is much more than an opportunity, it is really an opportunity to pay tribute to her and to make her wish come true. During her illness, Miss Tahiti would have been the means for her to escape,” she said. she notably recounted.

Tumateata Buisson also dedicated her victory to her mother, as we can read in a long message posted on her Instagram account: “My engine and my strength, you were there throughout this adventure”. “June 25, 2021, or how my life took a whole different turn”, also wrote the young woman, who affirmed, in an interview given to Polynesia the 1st after her victory, to be “determined to carry high the colors of our fenua [“island”, in Tahitian, editor’s note] “.
