Virginia was crowned two new beauty queens

Christina Thompson was crowned Miss Virginia USA 2021 while Alyssa Mawyer won the crown of Miss Teen Virginia USA 2021 at the Carpenter Theater in Richmond. The winners will now go on to compete at the Miss USA and Miss Teen USA competition in Tulsa, Oklahoma, in November.

Christina won the title, besting 34 other candidates and succeeds Miss Virginia USA 2020, Susie Evans. The beauty queen is an award-winning journalist and beauty queen from Lynchburg, Virginia, United States. Her mother Hallie Thompson was Miss Ohio USA 1987. When Christina was in high school, she was on the varsity volleyball team. From 2014 to 2018, she attended Wake Forest University where she earned her bachelor’s degree in communication, journalism and writing.

After being crowned Miss Virginia USA 2021, Christina took to her social media account to share the news and her excitement about representing the state at the national competition. She shared a couple of pictures from her crowning moment and wrote, “I’m GOING TO MISS USA. First and foremost, all glory to God and His perfect timing. I am so honored and blessed to have been chosen as Miss Virginia USA 2021! I appreciate this opportunity so very much. I’ve dreamed of this day since I was a little girl, and I’m beyond proud of all the hard work and dedication that went into creating this moment. It truly did take a team of incredible people to help me. I have so many people to thank for believing in me and helping me along the road to get here. I can’t wait to share about them and spotlight their expertise in the coming days and weeks. “

She is the creator of the Purposeful Position Mentorship, a place to showcase women how to use their careers to benefit the world around them along with encouraging others to follow their footsteps.

She is not a newbie to pageantry. Thompson said she has worked for this since she was 5 years old.

“I tried on my mom’s Miss Ohio USA crown and banner. I found it in a Mrs. Fields cookie box in her closet,” she said. “I thought I was going to find cookies before dinner and instead I found her crown and banner. My mom said I came out wearing it with her heels on that were too big and I said, ‘Mom, I want one of these one day,‘ and she said, ‘Okay, but you have to work for it.'”

She was Miss New Jersey Teen USA 2013. On August 10, 2013, she represented New Jersey at Miss Teen USA 2013 on the Atlantis Paradise Island in Nassau, Bahamas. She finished in the Top 16. Then she competed at Miss North Carolina USA 2016 and finished in the Top 10. In 2018, she competed at Miss New Jersey USA 2018 and finished in the Top 18. She was Miss North Carolina USA 2019 second runner-up and Miss North Carolina USA 2020 second runner-up.
