Rashana Hydes crowned Miss World Cayman Islands 2021

Rashana Hydes was crowned Miss World Cayman Islands 2021, at the end of the 3rd edition of this pageant, held on Saturday, May 29 at the Harquail Theatre, George Town in Grand Cayman. She succeeded Miss World Cayman Islands 2019, Jaci Patrick, for the title. Sydonie Barrett and Alyssa West were the first and second runners-up, respectively, while Krista Ebanks and Jesika Calderin-Ebanks completed the Top 5 finalists.

Hailing from West Bay, the 24-year-old mental health advocate holds Bachelor of Science in Hospitality Management degree from the University of Central Florida. She received her associate’s degree in Hospitality Management at the University College of the Cayman Islands, graduating with honors.

She can be described as ambitious, fair-minded, and artistic, who is passionate about various forms of creative expression.

Rashana aspires to be a leader in the tourism industry of the Cayman Islands to promote an environmentally friendly, sustainable approach to the islands’ long-term economic growth. She had explained that during the pandemic she was able to do a lot of self-reflection and gained a new perspective towards life and will now focus on advocating for young men and women to inspire and guide them.

“I want young women to recognize the similarities between themselves and me, and they can draw inspiration from knowing that if I can overcome life’s challenges, they can as well,” she explained. The newly crowned beauty queen is also a keen advocate for mental health and mentioned that she wants to get more involved and actively give back to society through various volunteer organizations. Asking about what makes her different, Rashana mentioned that being surrounded by strong women in a family, she was taught the foundation of what it means to be a good person and a strong woman in the face of any adversity.

Rashana shared, “In 2015, I was diagnosed with generalized anxiety, which I actively work to overcome every day with positive coping mechanisms. I want to show young people going through similar struggles that may be unseen and less spoken of, that we are all able to create our success. “

Lastly, she added, “I want to work with organizations such as the Alex Panton Foundation to help facilitate accessible mental health resources and support, particularly for children aged 10-17. This cause is specifically impactful and important to me because of my struggles and the mental struggles experienced by my close family, friends, and colleagues.”

The new Miss World Cayman Islands will be sent to compete at the Miss World 2021 pageant in San Juan, Puerto Rico later this year. “It’s still a little surreal, but a few days later it’s now starting to sink in. The hours of effort, the practice, the support, the encouragement, and the grace of God made this possible,” Rashana shared online.
