Pass the Crown
Pass the Crown – Interview of Mister Supranational Aruba 2020, Derrel Lampe
Today, we put our bags in Aruba to get to know Derrel Lempe, the representative of the island of Aruba at the next edition of mister Suprananational, to be held in August in Poland.
Inside Pageant – Introduce yourself for people who don’t know you.
My Name is Derrel Silvester Emanuel Lampe and I’m 29 years old, representing the one happy island Aruba.
Inside Pageant – Who is the most influential person in your life?
This would be my great-grandmother, who after losing her home completely due to a fire, also lost my great-grandfather (her husband) who could not bear this great tragedy and decided to take his own life in the rest of that burned house 2 days later. My great-grandmother had to start from scratch fighting for her children. A few years later life returns to give her a few blows when she loses 2 of her children. Despite all these odds, she manages to live a happy life and to be grateful with life with all its obstacles.
Inside Pageant – What is the best lesson your great-grandmother has learned you and that has shaped your life?
She taught me that the blows and the obstacles that life gives us or are learnings that in the present or future would be essential tools for taking decisions with much more wisdom.
Inside Pageant – What is your motto ?
Dreams are not simply dreams, they are goals to fulfill.
Inside Pageant – Why is so important for you ?
There are many people who believe that dreams are transient and that they will never come true. I choose to believe otherwise and pursue excellence via small goals that become big achievements in the future.
Inside Pageant – What is your motivation and what do you feel grateful for every day?
My biggest motivation is my aspiration to be happy and approach life with a grateful heart. I live every day feeling grateful for all that I have and do not focus on what I do not have. I look forward to making honest mistakes that are lessons in disguise for me to develop into a better person each day.
Inside Pageant – What values do you wish you could teach the next generation ?
We need to have more empathy. We need to be able to walk in the shoes of others to show respect and support to each other. Bu judging each other without knowing each other is just a recipe for more divisions in our society.
Inside Pageant – What is the one thing you can label as your guilty pleasure?
I can eat an endless amount of sushi!
Inside Pageant – What are your hobbies and interests?
I love sports in general, but I really enjoy playing volleyball and traveling around the world to learn from the people of each country that I visit.
Inside Pageant – Your rare talent?
This is probably not a talent, but I can fall asleep very fast!
Inside Pageant – Your favorite books?
My favorite book is a book written in Papiamento (our native language) that is called “Accompanied by an angel”.
Inside Pageant – Your favorite quotes?
“Never stop dreaming!”
Inside Pageant – Let’s focus a little on your course in pageantry. Tell us about your pageant history
I have always been part of the fashion and pageant world by helping and coaching pageant contestants locally. I also help a local designer decorate evening gowns for them. 1 year ago I decided that it is my time to also represent my Island internationally.
Inside Pageant – How did you start in beauty pageants?
In 2006, at the age of 14, I participated in Aruba Model Search together with 79 other contestants. I would say that it was from that moment the interest in Modeling and pageantry began.
Inside Pageant – What’s your best memory in pageantry?
The best experience so far is seeing Aruba’s representatives compete internationally and promote our small island on large platforms.
Inside Pageant – What’s your worst memory in pageantry?
I don’t have one 😊
Inside Pageant – What is your on stage strategy to win the judges over?
I will definitely have the biggest smile and the happiest glow on stage, being a real citizen of the One Happy Island.
Inside Pageant – How do you define your style? What’s your strength?
My style is very classy, with very trendy touches. My strength is my ability to be myself at all times.
Inside Pageant – Your fitness and health secret?
Make healthy choices and always incorporate exercising in your daily routine.
Inside Pageant – If you won Mister Supranational, what would be your first strong action?
After shedding some tears of joy and happiness I will dedicate my reign to everyone who needs to feel that they’re not alone, and that failures do not mean the end of the roads. I will aspire to achieve happiness and growth in everything I do.
Inside Pageant – If you won Mister Supranational, which cause will you defend ?
I would focus on empathy towards each other, especially teaching empathy to the younger generation. We don’t need people judging each other, we need people who can help each other grow and be better assets to our planet.
Inside Pageant – Tell us about this platform.
Empathy is not taught at schools, yet it is one of the fundamentals to guarantee a society full of love and respect towards one another. I would pursue and target clubs who work with children and young adults to start empowering each other in little groups. I strongly believe in small goals to achieve big future results.
Inside Pageant – What are some of your achievements?
I am very proud that at 22 years I was already the owner of my own house to be able to provide a loving roof over the head of my parents, sibling and rest of the family.
Inside Pageant – What do you think about the power of social networks today?
Social networks, the same as all platforms, it is up to us to make proper use of them. These are free and open platforms to help us connect with others around the globe in a matter of seconds. But, they also provide people with bad intentions to hide behind fake profiles and cause harm to others. Please be aware of this and immediately report harmful behavior on social networks.
Inside Pageant – What’s your favorite social network?
Inside Pageant – If you had app, it would be an app about :
My app would help people who are lost to connect back with their loved ones. For example tsunami survivors can find each other via my app.
Inside Pageant – If you had a magazine title about you, what would it say?
Derrel Lampe: Empathy is in fashion!
Inside Pageant – If you had a talk show, it would be a show about…
I would love to present the news!
Inside Pageant – These final lines are yours, Derrel. An inspirational message ?
Let’s be more empathic towards each other. A future built with love, trust and respect is a future I would want for the next generation, but we must start today. Small goals will become big results in the future!
Thanks for this interview and good luck for the ultimate preparations… See you in Poland.
