Mrs Tourism Universe crowned

Former Mutya ng Pilipinas president Hemilyn Escudero-Tamayo was crowned Mrs. Tourism Universe 2021 during a virtual competition held on August 3, 2021. Due to the pandemic, the competition beamed through live stream on social media. She beaten 30 other candidates for the crown and won a lot of special awards such as Best in Speech, Best in Talent, Best National Costume, Most Supportive Candidate and Most Viewed Mother.

In her speech, Hemilyn focused on caring for the world during the pandemic.“This pandemic has been the worst nightmare for all of us. It has taken our freedom, jobs and to some loved ones. As a mother who truly cares for the world, I will teach my kids and people around to follow the health and safety protocols and learn to adapt to the new normal. To be able to cope and move forward, and most of all, I will encourage everyone amidst the pandemic to stay positive. Pray to God Almighty that this will be over soon. Let us have this burning faith in our hearts and heal as one. Thank you – Mrs Tourism Philippines 2021,” she said.

Nettes is a native of Bacolod City and married to Jaridom Jison for 33 years. They have four children and are residing in Minnesota, USA. A businesswoman currently based in Las Piñas, Nettes is the interim president of Hemz Development Corporation, her parents’ business venture. She took up financial management in Texas, USA and is a product of Charlston School of Protocol and Etiquette and Fashion Image Institute in San Francisco. She is the founder of Total Image, Inc., an image consultant agency. In 2019, Hemilyn enrolled at the prestigious Yale University in Connecticut, USA to further her studies in the field of arts.

Hemilyn is back in the pageant scene after four decades when she was officially crowned as 2019 Mrs. Tourism Philippines.  “After my kids have all graduated from college and have settled in the US, I asked myself what’s the next chapter of my life going to be? We all serve a purpose in life. The challenge is to find it. Happiness and peace of mind are priceless,” shared Nettes during her official crowning as Mrs. Tourism Philippines 2019 by Mrs. Tourism Pageants president/CEO Ovette Ricalde and marketing director Richard Hiñola.

She’s a staunch advocate of the “Save the Earth” campaign, which helps in the protection and preservation of the natural environment. Her personal motto in life is “live, laugh and love” and she strongly believes to be an impeccable version of oneself.

Other titleholders in the said pageant are Mrs Tourism World Catherine Yogi (of Phil-Japan), Mrs Tourism International Monica Nugra of Ecuador, Mrs Tourism Earth Lisha Alencastre Nin of Peru and Mrs Tourism Globe Estelle Roche Kaye of Singapore.
