Miss Universe Cambodia becomes ‘Goodwill Ambassador’
Miss Universe Cambodia 2020, Reth Sarita has been appointed ‘Goodwill Ambassador’ for the Ministry of Women’s Affairs. Supplied Miss Universe Cambodia 2020, Reth Sarita has committed to promoting gender equality and empowering woman of the Kingdom by agreeing to become ‘Goodwill Ambassador’ for the Ministry of Women’s Affairs.
The signing of the agreement to become ambassador took place online between Undersecretary of State of Ministry of Women’s Affairs’s Hou Nirmita and Sarita on August 19. Sarita told Khmer Times yesterday that she is very pleased to be the ambassador for such an important cause.
“With the task that the ministry has given me now, I will do my best to represent the strength and courage of women, be a role model and be an inspiration for girls in Cambodia and contribute to the promotion of morality, society and well-being,” she said.
She added that “I will help to reduce female vulnerability by participating in projects preventing violence against women and girls in the Kingdom. Women are a vital part of society and the economy as a whole”.
Sarita added that the ministry and she will have many projects together for a full year in many locations when the Covid-19 situation improves.
According to the Ministry, the purpose of this arrangement with Sarita is to work together to promote gender equality and empower women and girls in the Kingdom by tackling vulnerability, increasing public awareness and changing the sometimes negative attitudes towards women and girls.
“This arrangement also reduces all forms of discrimination, violence and achieves the goals of the sustainable development of Cambodia,” the ministry said in a statement.
In July, Sarita had also shown her support in the Oxfam’s campaign advocating for better maternity protection for all women workers.
Sarita who watched Oxfam’s two-month digital campaign post: “Every Mother Counts” launched on June 11, was moved by the campaign and felt compelled to support it using her rising popularity and rapidly growing social media platform.
She said that: “As a Cambodian woman, I was alarmed and saddened to learn that 90% of women workers in my country have no access to maternity protection benefits just because they are in the informal sector.”
Sarita was winner of Miss Universe Cambodia 2020. In addition to her ability to model, she can also speak both English and French fluently.
Sarita had also competed in the Freshie Girl competition two times, and has made a great effort in improving her performances of being an actress and presenter.
She also represented Cambodia at the Miss Universe International pageant in the United States in April.
