Miss France sued in court: “scandalized”, Alexia Laroche-Joubert comes out of silence

Monday, October 18, 2021, the association Osez le féminisme ! filed a lawsuit  against the Miss France pageant which it considers “sexist” and which would violate labor law. The president of the company, Alexia Laroche-Joubert, came out of the silence to try to put an end to this controversy.

It’s a case that is starting to make a lot of noise. On Monday, October 18, 2021, the association Osez le feminisme !  filed a lawsuit against the company Miss France with the Prud’hommes. Behind this legal action for “sexism” and “non-respect of labor rights” are in particular three women who could not participate in the beauty contest because they did not meet the criteria. “This company exploits women, who repeat and perform each year a sexist, discriminating and lucrative show generating millions of euros in revenue: the whole in complete violation of labor law“, denounced Osez le feminisme ! in a press release.

Contacted by Le Parisien, french newspaper, Alexia Laroche-Joubert, newly appointed president of the company Miss France, spoke on the subject. “I am always extremely astonished, not to say scandalized, to see feminist associations which attack places where women are valued and where young girls decide to live a dream to also allow access to a professional career and autonomy, ”she said.

Alexia Laroche-Joubert subsequently returned to the annoying subject: the criteria imposed on candidates. “It’s a beauty contest, so in principle there are criteria. You can make the analogy with a boxing competition, there are heavyweights and lightweights. framework of an employment contract “, she first recalled before defending this rule of the competition: “When we ask candidates not to smoke or drink alcohol in public, it is because they are often filmed and there is a problem with the Evin law. I am not going to have fun blurring all the images. When we say: no children, there is a reason. The miss who is going to be elected will travel all over France to meet the French, that requires significant availability.

The producer is however ready to make some changes as she has already indicated. “I had a meeting with the Miss France committees, we have already talked about size, in particular. Some attach more importance to it than others. They are involved in the relationship with these young girls, they organize departmental and regional elections. We have always opened discussions with them. ” Thus, for Alexia Laroche-Joubert, the Miss France pageant is far from being in danger. “This is only a request for study before the industrial tribunal, there was no summons,” she said, calmly.
