Kenya wins Miss Tourism Africa 2022
Fridah Muthoni Kariuki was crowned Miss Tourism Africa 2022 during the pageant on October 1, 2022, in Lagos, Nigeria. The representative of Kenya beat 5 other delegates to win this first crown. The aim of this pageant is to promote Africa Excellence.
Kariuki works as journalist, writer, but also as Kenyan environmentalist and humanitarian who has always aspired to represent her country at international stage. She describes herself as humble, kind, and passionate about giving back to the society.
Kariuki is not a newbie to pageantry. In 2018, she was crowned Miss Tourism Kenya Embu County and competed at the Miss Tourism Kenya pageant. In 2020, she has been handpicked to represent Kenya at the 2020 Miss Earth virtual pageant.
Starting off as Miss Earth Kenya 2020, she grew into a climate and human rights activist keen on driving local action and empowering the youth and women. She believes in the power of using your voice and platforms to lead and influence action in the society. “You don’t need to go big, just look around you, you’ll be surprised how much needs to be done… that’s where you start.“
In 2021, she founded Green Age Warriors, who seeks to lead numerous campaigns to produce real change, both in Kenya and across the world. Through organizing environmental activities, events, the organization works to drive local action, hold leaders and decision-makers accountable for their actions, moving them to rethink what is possible while seeking climate justice. Green Age Warriors is dedicated to a few central causes including tree growing which they believe are crucial in helping achieve their goals.
