Hunter Widvey crowned Miss South Dakota 2022
Hunter Widvey was crowned Miss South Dakota 2022, at the end of the pageant, held on June 4, 2022 on the campus of South Dakota State University in Brookings. Miss Buron bested 19 other candidates to succeed Miss South Dakota 2021, Kaitlin O’ Neill and to receive over $10,000 in scholarships. In addition to the $8,000 scholarship for winning the competition, the native from Rapid City received an additional $1,000 as the preliminary talent winner, $1,000 as the overall interview award winner, as well as a $750 STEM scholarship. As Miss South Dakota’s Outstanding Teen 2016, Widvey is the fourth former teen titleholder to go on and win the Miss South Dakota Competition. She earned the opportunity to represent South Dakota at the Miss America Competition at Mohegan Sun Resort in Connecticut later this year.
Widvey chose Childhood Cancer Awareness as her social impact initiative and sang the song “Feelin’ Good” for the talent portion of the contest.
Widvey is a graduate of Augustana University with a double major in government and biology. She has also been accepted to medical school at Des Moines University.

2nd runner-up – Annie Woodmansey (Miss NSU)
3rd runner-up – Rio Snyder (Miss Dakota Prairie)
4th runner-up – Miranda O’Brian (Miss State Fair)
