Denice Lam crowned Miss Hong Kong 2022

Denice Lam was crowned Miss Hong Kong 2022 at the end of the 50th anniversary of the pageant organised by TVB, held at the Hong Kong Coliseum on September 25, 2022. Aspiring model succeed Sabina Mendes de Assunção, Miss Hong Kong 2021 and will represent her country at the next edition of Miss Chinese International pageant. Speaking to reporters after her crowning, Denice said: “Actually, I still can’t believe that I’ve won because I felt that my performance wasn’t very good.” She beat out 18 other contestants to win the crown.

Attractiveness runs in the family as her impeccable looks can be attributed to her father, former actor Wilson Lam. Wilson, 61, was a Hong Kong heart-throb in the 1980s and 1990s who has since stepped away from the entertainment industry. Wilson himself originally didn’t believe Denice would win either. During the show’s final segment with the top 5 contestants, Denice was asked what she would she say in her winning speech to her father. Denice responded that she believed her father would be very surprised and revealed that her father did not approve her decision to compete in Miss Hong Kong 2022.

Denice mentioned that Wilson had told her not to “play around” when she brought up the topic of participating in Miss Hong Kong 2022. “When I asked you if I should take part in the beauty pageant, you told me to stop playing around,” Denice cheekily told reporters. “Look at me now, I’m the champion!“

This is her second attempt at the pageant, as she had joined once before. The 27-year-old is taking her participation seriously as this is her last shot at the beauty pageant. For those not in the know, the cut off age for Miss Hong Kong is 27.  Although Denice initially participated under her current name, Denice Lam (林卓錡), she is now choosing to take up the competition under her given name 林钰洧 (Lin Yuwei).

Prior to this crown, Denice garnered some fame through Instagram and her appearance on the horoscope show “Abracadabra (对号入座)”. In this show, Denice had admitted then to having five sexual partners, with Scorpio men being her favourite. “He is not only tall and handsome, (he) also has plenty of moves and persistence in bed,” she reportedly said. “If you have a relationship with a Scorpio, you will need a lot of physical strength.” The actress claimed a Scorpio could go for a long time in bed, leaving her dizzy and sweaty. Needless to say, it certain seared Denice’s image into many minds.

The 2022 Miss Hong Kong’s court includes

1st runner-up – Cecca Xu

2nd runner-up – Joey Leung

Xu, who has been admitted to both Oxford and Cambridge universities’ MBA courses, was also named Miss International Goodwill, while Leung also picked up the title of Miss Photogenic. At a rehearsal on Saturday night, the contestants voted Sharon Ying, a 27-year-old model, Miss Friendship.
