Crowns & Sashes now holders of Miss Universe franchise for T&T
The Miss Universe Franchise is in new hands.
Trinidad and Tobago’s pageant academy Crowns & Sashes has received the official nod of approval from the Miss Universe Organisation to produce the local leg of the international beauty pageant.
“It gives us great pleasure to return to and add the Miss Universe Trinidad and Tobago (MUTT) franchise to our suite of recognised global beauty pageant brands. Starting our journey in the world of international beauty pageantry in 2019 with Miss Supranational, one of the Big Five pageants, the award-winning academy has grown over the last year with the addition of Miss Top Model Trinidad and Tobago and Mister Supranational Trinidad and Tobago,” the academy said via a press release.
Crowns & Sashes successes include Top 24, Miss Supranational 2019 and 2020, and most recently, top-five finish at the Top Model of the World Pageant in Egypt.
Trinidad and Tobago was last represented at the Miss Universe pageant in 2017 and has won the pageant twice – in 1998 by Wendy Fitzwilliam and in 1977 by Janelle ‘Penny’ Commissiong – the first black woman to win the prestigious crown.
