A new Miss Namibia was crowned

Chelsi Tashaleen Shikongo was crowned as the new Miss Namibia 2021 at the end of the finale, held on 5th June 2021 at the Windhoek Country Club Resort and Casino. She will represent Namibia at Miss World 2021 or Miss Universe 2021. She succeeds Miss Namibia 2019 Nadja Breytenbach for the title.

Hailing from Walvis Bay, the model of 23-years-old started her career as a beauty model with LC’s Models in 2010, and in 2011 she left school and started working as a freelance model. The diva attended Kuisebmond Secondary School in Walvis Bay between 2010 to 2014 and 2013, she auditioned for the Trustco Star Performer talent competition and made it to boot camp for models where she was first introduced to Boss Models Agency but failed to make it to the final part of the competition due to her examinations.

The beauty queen is passionate about beauty pageants and believes that with the platform given to her, she can make a significant impact on the society and is positive about her cause. She is the oldest of 6 siblings and is also running a campaign for her fifteen-year-old sister who is suffering from tuberculosis. She speaks Afrikaans and English. She also studied Portuguese and German.

Chelsi is the founder of ‘I Can Say No’, an empowerment campaign that promotes inclusive education. This campaign was started in 2015 which promotes abstinence to minimize the rate of teenage pregnancies and prevent unwanted pregnancies through effective communication programs in Namibia. She would also like to teach Namibians about the importance of nutrition, raise awareness about food and help alleviate poverty.

I have celiac disease and am lactose intolerant. These conditions have changed my perception of food. Understanding these conditions has positively affected my body image and mental health. I would like to empower our people to understand the importance of correct nutrition because the relationship we have with food affects our body image and mental health, “she said.
