The representative of Ecuador is the new Reina Mundial del Banano
Paula Vergara was crowned Reina Mundial del Banano 2022 at the end of the 57th edition of the contest, held in Machala, province of El Oro on September 24, 2022. The representative of Ecuador disputed the crown among 14 participants from banana consuming and producing countries. She also won Miss Photogenic and Best Hair awards.
The decisive moment of the contest was in the questions that are asked to the five finalists to know in case of winning what social project she would do and she answered that her goal was to bring the banana to schools so that the children of El Oro know the nutritional importance of that fruit. She is not a newbie to pageantry. In 2019, she was crowned Reina de Machala and Reina Nacional de la Minería. She was elected as the representative of Ecuador on September 3, 2022, among 12 candidates.

Shannia Mora from Costa Rica was awarded Miss Amistad and Mariela Cerros from Nicaragua won the Best Body award.
