Suspected COVID-19 cases investigated among seven Miss World 2021 contestants
The Miss World Organization attends seven suspected cases of COVID-19 among the 98 candidates who are on the island for the international contest scheduled for this Thursday, to be held at the Coliseo de Puerto Rico José M. Agrelot.
Julia Morley, CEO of the international organization, confirmed that the contestants are isolated and quarantined,as are all the people who had any direct contact with them. “If they don’t produce a negative PCR test, they won’t be on stage for the final show,” Morley said in a written statement.
“Knowing the gravity of this global situation we all face, we took steps to capture each contestant’s unique talent so that in case they couldn’t join us on the last night, they could still win the crown as Miss World 2021. The panel of judges will review your pre-recorded video content to make its final decision.“
Evelyn Guadalupe, a spokeswoman for the organizers of the event in Puerto Rico, said that, for the time being, they cannot specify how many of the possible cases were confirmed by molecular testing.
Earlier, Stephanie del Valle,Miss World 2016 and organizer of the international Miss World 2021 pageant, acknowledged that several candidates are “in quarantine for a few days now.” She did not want to reveal if any had tested positive, but said that the organization has followed all the protocols of the Department of Health.
“Here all health protocols are being taken into account. The candidates who have felt bad, right now, at least I have not received any information that any candidate has come out positive. Those who have felt a little bad are in quarantine for a few days now. All protocols are being taken… I want to make that clear because I also don’t want people to think that here we are being irresponsible and putting puerto Rico’s health at risk,” she said in a telephone interview.
