Sujita Basnet is Miss Universe Nepal 2021
Sujita Basnet was crowned Miss Universe Nepal 2021 during the finals held October 30 at Hotel Yak and Yeti, Durbar Marg. The 28-year-old tech consultant, who is currently residing in the US, bested 15 other finalists for the title. She is expected to represent the nation at the 70th Miss Universe competition in Eilat, Israel in December. She suceeds 2020 winner Anshika Sharma.
Basnet took home the coveted crown after impressing the judges with her insightful answer in the Top 5 round. To the question, ‘If you could be a leader in any sector which one would you choose, and why?‘, Basnet answered: “If I were to be a leader in any sector I would choose technology. We live in a world where technology drives everything that we do. What is technology? It is innovation, it is cure. We live in a time where we have been facing COVID-19, a worldwide virus and because of technology we were able to find a solution. So, if I were to be a leader of any industry, it would be technology because our entire world, the universe needs innovation. We need a cure and we need the future to understand and communicate with each other about what is going on in our world. And through technology, we are able to accomplish all of these things. So, I would choose to be a leader in technology.“

Along with her own dreams, she hopes to inspire the dreams of individuals across the nation through her initiative ‘Liberated’, an organization dedicated to empower women who are socially and financially bound from reaching their potential.
Basnet isn’t a newbie to pageantry. She have been crowned the first ever Miss Nepal USA in 2011. In 2016, she was awarded the title of Miss Maryland World 2016 and went onto represent Maryland in Miss World America 2016 where she placed in the Top 12. In November 2019, Sujita finished 2nd Runner Up title and Public Choice Award of Miss Maryland USA 2020. Thus, she became the official delegate of Miss Earth USA 2020. She finished first runner-up in Miss Universe Nepal 2020.
The 2021 Miss Universe Nepal’s court includes Nina Kant Mandal andRakchya Upreti as first and second runners-up, respectively. Pratiksha Chhetri and Keshu Khadka were third and fourth runners-up, respectively.
