Señorita Colombia 2020 becomes Miss Universe Colombia 2022

The quindiana Maria Fernanda Aristizabal Urrea was appointed by the organization of Miss Universe Colombiaas the new country representative at the next edition of Miss Universe pageant during a press conference held on April 6, 2022 at the Dann Carlton Hotel in Medellin, Colombia. Dreams do come true! Back in 2019 prior to the pandemic, María Fernanda Aristizábal was crowned as Señorita Colombia 2020. She was supposed to represent Colombia at the Miss Universe 2020 pageant. Then the pandemic struck and there was a change of franchise owners of Miss Universe in Colombia. The 24-year-old social communicator was crowned by Miss Universe Colombia 2021, Valeria Ayos.

Nathalie Ackermann, director of Miss Universe Colombia, announced the decision and said that her organization received two more years of franchise of the international pageant. She admitted it was not an easy decision. She had to wait for the response of Señorita Colombia organization ensuring that María Fernanda has no active contracts or other legal obligations. She has also to contend the fact that María Fernanda was no longer preparing herself for international beauty contests but has instead focused on her business and academic goals. The gym, English and the catwalkwill be the skills that Aristizábal will have to reinforce to have a good presentation in Miss Universe, said Ackermann. The stakes of Aristizábal and Ackermann are high: both promised to fight to bring colombia the crown of the most beautiful woman in the world. The event also said that a coronation ceremony of Aristizábal will be held in a city and a date that has not yet been defined.

María Fernanda Aristizabal, at the press conference before her official sashing, spoke, “It is a moment that I have been waiting for a long time. I want to thank each one of you for being present here and I am happy to once again have a band on my chest called Colombia, I am happy because I never felt it far from me and Colombia is always in my heart.”

And the preparation began immediately: in the round of questions Aristizábal was asked about the idea that connects Latin beauty with the silhouettes and shapes of brunettes. The new Miss Universe Colombia responded that her beauty – that of a light-eyed blonde – demonstrates the plurality of the country’s inhabitants. “In Colombia there is not only one type of beauty, there are many. I love the way we can see that in Colombia we have all kinds of profiles, all kinds of physiques, all kinds of attitudes.What represents us is human warmth. That’s the main thing. I feel very Colombian. Here there are many blondes who represent Colombia very well. Every type of woman represents Colombia very well,” she said before the flashes of the cameras and microphones of the press.
