Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray unveils wax statue at Madame Tussauds Singapore

Madame Tussauds Singapore has officially launched the wax figure of the stunning Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray recreating the most famous Lava Walk look of the queen from the international finale. They also took to their social media to share, “Hey Universe! The one and only Miss Universe of 2018 Catriona Gray’s wax figure is right here in Madame Tussauds Singapore! Join her as you recreate her famous Lava Walk at Catriona’s one of a kind set.”

Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray and Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach, both from the Philippines, are the only Miss Universe winners so far honored with Madame Tussauds wax figures. Catriona’s wax figure can be viewed at Madame Tussauds Singapore beginning March 31. It is located in the museum’s TV and film zone, in an interactive display that allows visitors to attempt Catriona’s iconic lava walk. The figure will be on view until September 2022. Wurtzbach, likewise, has her own effigy in another Madame Tussauds wax museum. She is the first Filipino to have her Madame Tussauds wax statue. Hers is displayed prominently at the Hong Kong museum, replicating the moment she crowned Miss Universe 2016 winner Iris Mittenaere of France. In her effigy, Pia is wearing the iconic blue gown of Michael Cinco.

The queen herself unveiled the stunning creation. Catriona’s statue is the only Filipino wax figure in Madame Tussauds Singapore. “Who’s that girl? What a surreal moment to (FINALLY!) launch my very own wax figure at Madame TUssauds Singapore after 3 years! I’m so honored and flattered to be the only Filipino wax figure here in MT Singapore!” she shared.

“When I say I’ve been waiting for this launch a long time, I really mean it. It was back in 2019 when the news came that I would be honored with a wax figure at Madame Tussauds and two and a half years later, we’re finally here so it means so much to me that you’re all here to join in moment with me,” she added.

The museum collaborated with the original gown’s designer Mak Tumang as well as Gray herself to work on the figure. Gray also revealed that the measurement session for the figure took several hours of taking photographs, filming videos and working with colorists. Catriona’s wax figure can be viewed at Madame Tussauds Singapore beginning March 31. It is located in the museum’s TV and film zone, in an interactive display that allows visitors to attempt Catriona’s iconic lava walk. The figure will be on view until September 2022.

Of the 70 Miss Universe winners, there are four queens who have wax figures. The other two are Miss Universe 1991 Lupita Jones and Miss Universe 2010 Ximena Navarette, but these are not displayed in Madame Tussauds museums. Both of the Mexican titleholders’ effigies are displayed at the Museo de Cera in Mexico City.

Madame Tussauds is a wax museum that creates effigies of historical figures, Hollywood celebrities, sports figures, and famous beauty queens like Catriona Gray and Pia Wurtzbach.
