Ball State student crowned Miss Indiana 2022

Elizabeth Hallal was crowned Miss Indiana 2022 at the 81st Miss Indiana and Miss Outstanding Teen Scholarship Competition, held at Zionsville’s Star Bank Performing Arts Center on June 18, 2022. Miss Southern Heartland bested 35 other candidates to win the crown and to succeed Miss Indiana 2021, Braxton Hiser.  A Ball State student and southern Indiana native will represent the Hoosier state at this year’s Miss America pageant in December at the Mohegan Sun. The Georgetown native also won the preliminary red carpet, preliminary talent, outstanding vocalist and performing arts awards, each of which earned her additional money to continue pursuing her education. Combined with the money received for winning the title, Hallal earned a total of more than $13,000 in scholarships.

On Instagram following the crowning, Hallal shared her joy and said she’s excited for what lies ahead this year.

She’ll spend the next year promoting her social impact initiative, “The Triple A Project: Accessibility to the Arts for All”, which she founded in 2019. “As a kid, my family didn’t have lots of money; it was the generosity of others that gave me the opportunity to pursue my passion for the arts. This is what I strive to do for others through this initiative,” Hallal said. “Everyone, regardless of their ability or socioeconomic status, should have the opportunity to explore different disciplines of music in order to better express themselves,” she said on her social media.

The Floyd Central High School graduate now majors in Musical Theatre at Ball State University. Hallal won Miss Vocalist, the Edward L. Poe Performing Arts Award, and Miss Indiana preliminary talent award for her performance of “Defying Gravity” from Wicked.
